I spent a half day in Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve in Idaho in July of 2020, as part of a larger trip into Wyoming which included Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park.
Halfway between Boise Idaho and Yellowstone National Park, Craters of the Moon is a massive lava field containing different lava flows from between 2,000 and 15,000 years old. Here are a few examples of the landscapes I encountered during my time in Craters of the Moon.
As a bonus, I got to see the Idaho state bird, the Mountain Bluebird.
